Clearway in the community

We’re proud to be a force for good in the communities where we work and build on our reputation as a responsible long-term neighbor.

Our credo in communities: listen, partner, and invest. With each of our projects, we strive to find ways in which we can benefit local organizations, nonprofits, and infrastructure. From sponsoring educational partnerships to awarding community grants, our giving back initiatives allow us to build healthier communities and form long-lasting, meaningful relationships with our project neighbors.

Adopt-a-School

Signature program

/ 3

Clearway’s signature student-based program

Clearway’s operations & maintenance teams establish ongoing partnerships with K-12 schools through our Adopt-A-School program.

The site teams support a range of activities tailored to local schools, including tours of our wind and solar farms, demonstrations at career fairs and school assemblies, and support of student-led clubs.

Scaling our impact

By 2025, 100% of our renewable energy sites that are more than 50 MW in size will have community engagement plans and participate in our Adopt-a-School program.

In 2022, we kept pace with our growing operating fleet, with 50% of our qualifying sites participating in Adopt-a-School and 75% implementing community engagement plans.

Education-based partnerships

From West Virginia to Hawaii and in states in between, we partner with education-based organizations to sponsor and implement renewable energy-based curriculums.

We’re proud to work with BluePlanet Foundation and KidWind in schools nationwide.

Investing in healthy economies

Driving growth

At each project we ask: “what are the needs of the community?” We learn the answers by talking to local officials, landowners, school administrators, and other area leaders to hear where the need is most pressing. We engage in ways that are always locally tailored, whether it’s our signature Adopt-a-School program, supporting a local event, or direct donations to those who need it most.

Adopt-a-School

Our signature program was launched in 2020 with the objective to help you people in the communities that host our projects learn about renewable energy. Operations and maintenance staff from every utility-scale wind and solar site we operate partners with local schools to organize and participate in a variety of educational activities.

Wyoming Food Bank

Through the Two Rivers Wind Farm, BluEarth Renewables and Clearway Energy Group sponsored the cost of the Rock River, Wyoming mobile pantry for six months by donating $10,000 to the Food Bank of Wyoming. Their sponsorship ensures that area residents, many of whom are on fixed incomes, have access to nutritious food. The food bank serves about 100 families.

Newberry Springs Pistachio Festival

The annual Newberry Springs Pistachio festival, which relies heavily on volunteers, is an annual festival celebrating one of the local economy’s most popular crops. The Daggett Solar team hosts a booth with prizes and information about the nearby solar site.

Education

We’re committed to helping train the next generation of wind and solar technicians. We partner with Texas State Technical College, Western West Virginia Technical & Community College, and others to provide educational, financial, and technical support to vocational schools for aspiring technicians.

Site tours

There is no better way to understand renewable energy than to visit projects and hear from site technicians about their operations and maintenance duties. We host everyone from students to local officials to foreign delegations at our sites to learn about clean energy and see the technology in person.

Spotlighting community engagement from coast to coast

Partnership

We prioritize local communities everywhere work. Here’s what that looks like in a few places across the country.

California

The Golden State is home to some of the country’s – and Clearway’s – biggest solar + storage and wind farms. Our ten GW footprint across solar, wind, storage, and natural gas represents a $16 billion investment in California.

Hawai'i

The Aloha State was the first in the nation to set a target for 100% clean energy. Our partnership with local institutions helps us deliver on that goal.

Texas

Clearway’s footprint in the Lone Star State includes 3.7 GW of operating and development and over $4.4 billion in investments.

Hear from the community

David Ige

Governor of Hawai'i

Renewable energy is critical to Hawai‘i to be more affordable and resilient. We are a step closer to that goal today because of the Clearway team, which understood the urgency and stepped up to deliver their project ahead of schedule.

Jay Inslee

Governor of Washington

They’ve demonstrated that we can build our economy with clean energy jobs while reducing costs for customers. Climate change poses an existential threat, and projects like this show we can rise to the challenge. Thank you to Clearway, Avista, and everyone involved in bringing the Rattlesnake Flat wind farm online.

Jim Justice

Governor of West Virginia

This investment, this innovation, this diversification for West Virginia is amazing. I want to thank Clearway for recognizing the potential in West Virginia and creating this wonderful investment in our people and our state. We are here to help you in every possible way.
